Changing a lift cabin: price, advantages and reasons for doing so

What image does your building offer? The first impression people get is very much conditioned by the façade, the entrance and the lift cabin. Obviously, it is the first thing the user sees.

Focusing only on the lift, the cabin is the most aesthetic part of the machine. What do we mean when we talk about it?

A lift cabin consists of a floor, a ceiling and three vertical panels, and the possibilities for decoration are endless, with a multitude of materials available.

The cabins are usually equipped with different accessories, such as handrails, ventilation, emergency lighting, TFT screens, etc. But, above all, the main equipment is the control panel. Finally, the whole cabin is usually supported by a metal frame, which encloses it.

Why replace your lift cabin?

There is no exact date for replacing a lift cabin. What is certain is that the passage of time causes all its elements to deteriorate. To give a few examples, we can talk about aspects such as:

Improving the condition of cabin doors

The cabin doors, which are in constant operation, must always be in good condition, in accordance with the regulations in force at the time and with market elements that are not out of date.

Improving the travel experience

For increased comfort, frequency converters must be fitted to the cabin door motors.

Replace the lift floor

The floors of the cabins become damaged over time (when mopping, moisture causes rust in places that are not visible to the user), so it makes sense to renew them.

Lightening the weight of the lift with new materials

Technically, the materials currently used in the manufacture of the cabins are lighter and more robust. This translates into a better functioning of all the mechanical elements of the lift, as the weight is considerably lighter, and these newly manufactured elements are made of anti-corrosive materials.

Reducing energy consumption

It is necessary to install new technologies in the cabins to reduce consumption, such as LED lights and timed lighting.

In terms of aesthetics, the materials from which the cabins are constructed today allow for a greater number of decoration options and, consequently, improve the visual appearance of the cabins.

Introduction of new elements to improve performance

When the cabins are replaced today, they are fitted with a load weighing device, which helps to improve the performance of the whole system.

For all of the above reasons, replacing the cabin is sometimes an essential modernisation. As mentioned above, having a renewed and modern cabin translates into improved safety and a host of other benefits for all users.

What is the procedure for changing a lift cabin?

To carry out this modernisation, it is necessary to suspend the cabin and counterweight in order to safely dismantle the cabin, clean the chassis and install the lower cabin to chassis mountings (recommended to be replaced).

The steps to follow are as follows:

  • Prepare the new electrical installation of the cabin, including the control panel.
  • Install and level the floor, leaving a distance of 30-35 mm between the cabin floorboards and the outer door.
  • Install the side and rear panels and the cabin roof.
  • Plumb the cabin and install the cabin roof attachments to the chassis so that it is completely rigid.
  • Correctly tighten all the joints between panels, mouths, roof and floor in order to subsequently install the operator and the cabin doors.
  • Subsequently carry out a subsequent counterweighting.

How long does the renovation of the lift cabin take?

This work can take a maximum of 10 days to complete.
